Around 30,000 homosexual and transgender people are living in Ho Chi Minh City, said Dr. Tieu Thi Thu Van, head of the Ho Chi Minh city Committee for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, said at a forum of gay and transgender people.
Dr. Van said that the city has around 30,000 homosexual and transgender people including 2,000-3,000 transgender persons and the rest is gays who are at high risk of contracting HIV. It is estimated that in the urban, the infection rate amongst gays is 16 percent and amongst transgender people is up to 18 percent.
