HCMC leader appreciates Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership

Politburo member, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan yesterday received new US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, appreciating Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership especially after the visit to Vietnam by US President Donald Trump.

Mr. Nhan affirmed that the mission of HCMC leaders and Mr. Kritenbrink is to boost the two countries’ relations according to the spirit of the joint statement of their leaders during the US President’s visit.
At present, 22,000 Vietnamese students are studying in the US and they are ambassadors of the two countries.
Mr. Nhan hoped that the two sides will boost the cooperation program on innovative startup, which is one of important contents in the visit to the US by HCMC leaders in December last year.
Fulbright University establishment would well serve innovative startup programs and the Smart City project in HCMC, he said.
HCMC plans to set up two innovative urban areas connecting with financial hub in District 2, hi-tech center in District 9 and the group of ten universities in Thu Duc district. So it does need American planners and investors.
Mr. Nhan appreciated the security cooperation between Vietnam and the US, saying it has contributed in keeping peace, security and navigation freedom in the region. Vietnam like other countries in the world needs a peaceful environment to develop.
The city Party Chief believed that during his tenure in Vietnam, Mr. Kritenbrink will boost the two countries’ relationship to a new phase.
The US ambassador said that President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the US have developed the two sides’ relationship more extensively; promoting security, commerce, economics and people’s diplomacy.
Mr. Kritenbrink asserted that not only him but also United States Department of State pay heed to bolstering diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
He hoped that there will be more American investors to Vietnam and more Vietnamese students to the US, affirming that there is much cooperation potential for the two sides.
He expressed his gratitude to HCMC authorities for creating good conditions for Fulbright University to take shape in the upcoming time. Appreciating the two countries’ student exchange programs, the ambassador affirmed that he is willing to connect the US and HCMC in the field of education and take US firms to HCMC to help the city obtain targets to be a Smart City and innovative startup.
Saying thank you to Mr. Nhan for doing his best for American firms to have a fair business environment in HCMC, the ambassador hoped the city authorities to further boost commerce and investment by US companies in the city.
Mr. Kritenbrink committed to assisting Vietnam to ensure security and maritime safety in the East Sea, and solve war consequences. In the upcoming time, he will inspect Bien Hoa Airport to draw a dioxin detoxification plan and keep cooperation in the program to seek missing American soldiers and Vietnamese during the American War.
On the same day, chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received Mr. Daniel J.Kritenbrink.
