HCMC pilots automatic bus fare payment

The Department of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City today said that the city would pilot automatic bus fare payment.

Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen has given Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VietBank) and Zion Company the green light to pilot project of automatic fare payment for public passenger bus system.
The pilot project will not use the city state budget.
The department was assigned to work with related agencies and two investors to implement the project in this February.
Implementation of the pilot project should be transparent and public and bidding will be organized as per the law. Moreover, adoption of technology is needed to have various payment ways in the futre.
The pilot project will last one year. The department will quarterly review and assessment of the project to adjust to the reality and technology development.
In case that any local or international firms pay heed to the pilot project, the Department will check its technology before submitting for People’s Committee’s approval.
The department and related departments including the Department of Finance, the Department of Planning- Investment, the Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Justice, the Department of Science and Technology will keep an eye on the pilot project and report to submit the city People’s Committee.
