HCMC signs trade cooperation with southern regions

Ho Chi Minh City, the Southern-Eastern regions and the Mekong Delta signed a trade and services cooperation agreement for the period 2011-2015 at a ceremony in HCMC on December 12.

Nguyen Thi Hong, Deputy Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Committee said the city has maintained a significant economic growth; GDP growth, industrial production value, retail commodity and service turnover accounting for 20-30 percent of the total state budget of the country.

Socio-economic cooperation between HCMC and the neighboring cities and provinces is a long-term strategy which aims to promote strong points, potential and advantages in many areas, Ms. Hong said.

The city will be instrumental as a bridge for socio-economic development between the South-Eastern regions and the Mekong Delta, the deputy chairwoman added.

This significant cooperation will create mutual support and develop more opportunities. It will also help businesses to operate effectively, increase production and trade, said Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh at the ceremony.

He urged relevant ministries and agencies to improve mechanisms and policies to support every area in promoting potential and advantages, planning and building of a strong economic development strategy.

Ha asked local authorities to build better infrastructure, develop trade, services, tourism and exports and create better environment for people and businesses to contribute towards socio-economic development.
