HCMC starts upgrading flood-prone Nguyen Huu Canh street from October 5

Amid the ongoing extreme road subsidence and flooding, the Management Board of Traffic Infrastructure Investment and Construction of Ho Chi Minh City planned to urgrade for 3.2- kilometer long Nguyen Huu Canh street from October 5.

According to Vice Director of the Management Board of Traffic Infrastructure Investment and Construction of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Vinh Ninh, the road surface of 0.5- 1.2 meter subsidence areas will be upgraded in order to ensure the anti-flood requirements, smooth traffic and urban plans. The sidewalk will be tiled with Terazo bricks.

Accordingly, there are around 60 of 459 trees along the arterial street which will be chopped down to serve the project. 

The project has total investment capital of nearly VND 473 billion, including VND 371 billion for construction from the city’s burget. 

After the project would have been finished, additional 130 trees and grass, wastewater drainage system, lightning systems would be set up along the street. 
Previously, the city not only spent nearly VND 10 billion for anti-flooding pump system at the street but also has not stopped making efforts for anti- flooding programs and solutions in the previous time.

Nguyen Huu Canh street is considered as an arterial street connecting the Eastern gateway to the downtown area with total investment capital of nearly VND 420 billion; however, it has braced for subsidence and serious flooding following heavy downpours and high tides after putting into the exploitaion.
