HCMC water supplier proposes rate rises

The Saigon Water Corporation has asked for a rise in water rates in Ho Chi Minh City, as rising costs to produce clean water has caused the firm to run at a loss for the last two years.

The Department of Finance has presented the proposal to the city’s People’s Committee for consideration, Tran Dinh Phu, the firm’s general director, said August 22.

According to the proposal, water rates will be VND7,900 a cubic meter for households using more than ten cubic meters a month, and VND4,500 a cubic meter for below this level.

Offices and manufacturing units will pay VND8,000 a cubic meter and VND13,000 a cubic meter for businesses and services.
