Posthumous bravery award for 12th grader

Luu Minh Hieu who died while trying to rescue a person on Long Hai beach was rewarded with the title “Brave Youth” by the Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Pham Van Mai, Secretary of the Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union awards the ‘Brave Youth’ to Hieu’s mother on January 6, 2008.

On behalf of the committee, Mr. Pham Van Mai grant the title to Hieu’s family and sent the condolence to his mother.

 

Luu Minh Hieu was a 12 grade pupil of Le Thanh Ton School in district 7, Ho chi Minh City.

 

More than 500 pupils from the School went to Long Hai Sea after an outside class activity in Phu My Thremo-electric Plant on December 26. Whilst on the beach, Hieu and two friends, heard cries for help. The three schoolboys dived into the sea to save the drowning person but were caught in strong currents. The two boys were rescued but Hieu was swept away.

 

Hieu’s body was found in Long Hai Sea two days later.
