State President Truong Tan Sang visits leading scientists and intellectuals in HCMC

President Truong Tan Sang has called on the country’s scientists and intellectuals to make further contributions to the development of science and technology, which spearhead national industrialization and modernization.

President Sang made the statement when he visited and wished a Happy New Year to outstanding scientists in Ho Chi Minh City on February 10, the first day of the Year of the Snake.

In the warm atmosphere of New Year's Day, in the morning of Feb 10 (1st day of new lunar year), State President Truong Tan Sang visited and send wishes of  a happy new year to families of leading scientists and intellectuals in HCMC.

President Truong Tan Sang conveyed good Tet wishes to Professor, Doctor Chu Pham Ngoc Son, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations; Associate Professor, Doctor Phan Thi Tuoi, former rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; and Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Thanh Dam, former rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy.

During the meeting, the President applauded the great talent and morality the scientists have been investing in scientific research and teaching work.

He also listened to the intellectuals’ opinions on how to accelerate the development of science and technology in the country. They exchanged views on measures to promote the national socio-economic situation, social security and Party building

President Sang said: "Until now, we have the" big disease " - not dare to speak the truth.

“Today I listen to the local ward Party secretary and the neighborhood, I see the truth, a truth in people. People are putting a lot of confidence on the Party, so today I just heard the voices of people and I promise we , the leaders of Vietnam, members of Central Committee have to do exactly what we said”, he added.

Before parting Professor Tran Thanh Dam, President Sang met hundreds of people of Chu Van An Apartment in Ward 26, Binh Thanh district who were gathering outside  Professor Tran Thanh Dam’s house.

These people when hearing of the visit of State President flocked to welcome President Sang.

Mr. Truong Tan Sang quickly held hands of each person making inquiry about how they enjoy the Tet holidays.

Everyone was happy with the sudden meeting and joyfully shared the Tet wishes with the State President.
