Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia has banned the importation of chickens from Thailand because of fears over bird flu cases in its Southeast Asian neighbor, Malaysian media reported on November 15.
Malaysian Agriculture Minister Mustapa Mohamed was quoted as saying that this is a preventive measure after the outbreak of bird flu in Thailand early this week.
Operations to prevent chicken smuggling at border areas have to be beefed up, he added.
Thailand confirmed on November 13 its second bird flu case in a week, saying the virus had been detected in a rural district north of Bangkok. It was the fourth case of the deadly virus found in Thailand in 10 months.
