More than 40 Dead in Pakistan Quake: Police

More than 40 people were killed when a strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Pakistan near its border with Afghanistan early Wednesday, police said.

"We have confirmed reports of more than 40 people dead when their homes collapsed in the earthquake," said Abdul Khaleq, a senior police official in the hill resort of Ziarat, about 50 kilometres (35 miles) east of Quetta.

A woman was also killed in Pishin district to the west of Quetta, another police official said
