One Sentenced to Death, 28 Jailed in China Slave Scandal

One man was sentenced to death Tuesday and 28 other people were handed jail terms in China for their roles in a slave labour scandal, a judge said in a televised ruling.

Zhao Yanbing, an employee at a brickyard who confessed on national television after his arrest to killing a mentally handicapped slave, was given the death penalty, Shanxi People's High Court judge Liu Jimin said.

The other 28 people were sentenced to prison terms ranging from two years to life.
