MOSCOW, Sept 3, 2009 (AFP) - Russia's oil output may reach 490 million tonnes of oil in 2009, Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko said on Thursday, as the world's second-biggest crude exporter marked record high output in August.
"For now, we see oil production at 490 million tonnes this year," Shmatko told journalist in Moscow.
The figure tops Russia's 2008 yearly oil production of 482 million tonnes.
In August, Russian oil output hit a record monthly high of almost 10 million barrels per day as it launched a major new field in the Arctic.
On Tuesday, Russia's biggest oil company, Rosneft, announced its highest-ever output in August as it inaugurated the new field in eastern Siberia.
