Customs Bureau in Tan Son Nhat International Airport has just discovered a large consignment of 59 elephant tusks transporting from Africa into Vietnam.
The package, weighing 40 kilogram, worth VND2.4 billion (US$ 113,234) was declared as containing cashew nuts by the consignor – company VTTH in Ho Chi Minh City, but TSN customs Bureau has found ivory tusks hidden among the clothes in the package.
African ivory tusk is listed in the World’s Red Book and Vietnam officially banned on trading in 1992, customs officers said.
The bureau has sealed the tusks for handling in accordance with applicable regulations.
