A married couple that owns Quynh Café in the city of Tam Ky was arrested by police in the central province of Quang Ngai June 21 for running operating a football gambling pool in which they took a 2 percent cut of the action.
At 8.45 pm on the day, Thai Thi Tuyen, 52, was paying off people who had won bets on the World Cup matches between Portugal and North Korea, and Chile and Switzerland.
Gamblers ran helter-skelter in the dark when police launched a surprise raid on the coffee shop.
Tuyen and her husband Huynh Van Mai, 58, tried to dispose of the evidence, but the police prevented them from doing so.
Provincial police are investigating the case and searching for more people involved.
