Police in District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday detained driver Dung for investigation of his dishonest deed.
The driver confessed at the police station that although Japanese Oki Toshiyuki paid VND500,000 for the trip, he still wanted to ask more.
Because the old Japanese man was slow in taking money, Dung decided to take four notes of VND500,000 and two other notes of VND200,000 and then drove away.
The old Japanese man said he was partly responsible because he didn’t find out the cost before getting in the pedicab.
After the case was reported by the media, the municipal Department of Tourism and police jumped into investigation, verifying Dung was the driver carrying old man Oki Toshiyuki. Dung himself went to the police station to report.
