Female passenger hides foreign currency worth VND 550 mln, caught

On May 16, Customs Department officials of Tan Son Nhat International Airport informed that they caught a Vietnamese female passenger who carried foreign currency worth nearly VND 550 million while was doing the procedures for exit.

The female passenger took flight KE 686 from Ho Chi Minh City to Seoul (Korea) named P.T.T.H (38 years old), Vietnamese nationality. She carried illegally foreign currency and did not declare it to the customs officials.

The violation exhibits include US$ 7,800, Korean won 20,000,000 and JPY 300,000 (equivalent to VND 541 million).

The case is being investigated and legal procedures are carried out by Customs Sub-Department at the border gate of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Earlier, on May 8, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Department also detected  a female passenger named L.L.K (50 years old), Australian citizen who illegally transported the amount of foreign currency worth more than VND 300 million.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Deputy Head of Tan Son Nhat International Airport's Customs Sub-Department, told reporter: "We hope that every passenger immigrating or exiting should know the relevant laws and regulations. They should carry out the declaration to the customs officials upon entry and exit to avoid liability for failing to fulfill the obligations "
