Former deputy general director of a food manufacturer arrested

The C37B unit of the central police arrested former deputy general director of a food manufacturer for committing embezzlement in HCM city yesterday.

Nguyen Thanh Huyen, 53, former deputy general director of VIFON, is accused of embezzling VND 8.1 billion (US$ 490,000) during her term of office.

Huyen is suspected of peculating VND 5.8 billion worth of joint-venture transferring fee in May 2003 and VND 2.3 billion of the company welfare fund when the company went public.

The police of the city have searched Huyen’s house and detained her for four months for further investigation.

Huyen used to be the chief accountant of the company before becoming the deputy general director.

The C37B unit is in charge of investigating official corruption crimes.
