Gov’t gives more power to marine police

The government March 19 announced changes to crime investigations, and legal and court costs that were approved by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly February 27.

Border and coast guards, marine police and environmental police have been given power to conduct initial investigations that will take effect from June 1.

The changes have removed obstacles for the Border and Coast guards and Marine Police investigating drug running, as well granting improved powers for the Environmental Police, Major General Trieu Van Dat, deputy head of the General Directorate, said.
