Ha Noi Police arrested a woman on Friday for cheating those wanting to find work overseas after searching her workplace in the capital.
According to the police, Bui Thi Kim Oanh, 44, set up an investment and trading company called Son Tay. She is the deputy general director and her husband Nguyen Van Suu is the general director.
Her company is not permitted to send Vietnamese abroad as guest workers and did not set up any partnership with companies allowed to do this. However, she started in 2005 advertising her company as an enterprise that is able to send guest workers to the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Brunei and other countries. She promised her victims that they would be able to go abroad two months after application.
She charged those wanting to go to RoK US$10,000 each, with installments accepted, and those who wanted Malaysia had to pay her more than US$2,000 each.
To make them believe her, Oanh signed contracts with language centers in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to teach her victims foreign languages. Each learner had to pay VND500,000 to VND6 million.
The bad woman confessed to the police that she had cheated thousands of people, and none of them have been sent abroad.
After her arrest, Oanh and her accomplice Nguyen Thi An, who also lives in Ha Noi, brought to the police US$2,200 and VND32 million (about US$2,000) that her victims had paid her.
