Nine women were rescued as police arrested 19 members of an interprovincial human-trafficking ring in Hanoi July 3.
The rescued people included seven girls under 16 with the youngest being 13. Three of the girls were found confined, beaten and starved in prostitution dens as punishment for refusing to receive whoremongers.
In their initial statement, the human traffickers admitted to having carried out 11 cases of trading women and children since the beginning of the year. Each of the victims fetched VND3-12 million.
Seven of the cases ocurred in June alone.
