Illegal hunter caught red-handed killing rare animal

Forest rangers of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park yesterday transferred a man who killed the goat-antelope Indochinese serow, which is listed as a near threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), to police in Bo Trach District in the central province of Quang Binh.

Before, during the patrolling in the section 609 of the national park on September 17, forest rangers discovered four men who were killing a 61-kilogram antelope ( Naemorhedus sumatraensis).
Forest rangers arrested one of them while the three fled away. Raiding the tent of these hunter, forest rangers detected five living civet-cats including three Pagumalarvata and two Paradoxurus hermaphroditusc and some equipments.
The arrested man, 24-year-old Nguyen Van Tuan, admitted that he along with accomplice trapped rare animals. They were caught red handed killing the antelope.
Forest rangers passed the document of the illegal hunter to police for further investigation.
