Police January 13 arrested 25 year old Le Thi Bich Tram, a resident of the Mekong delta province of Long An for the kidnapping. After that, the baby was safely returned to his parents Truong Van Hen and Nguyen Thi Minh Tam in District 7.

Senior lieutenant colonel Nguyen Van Thanh, chief of the Social Criminal Investigation Department in District 7 said that after receiving the information of the kidnapping, his staff have traced the kidnapper to a house in the village No.1 in Binh Hung Commune in Binh Chanh District, HCMC.

Police encouraged her to give herself to police and in the morning of January 13, Tram gave herself up to police.

Preliminary investigations show that she kidnapped the baby as she has just had a miscarriage.

Fearing that her lover - Vu Tien Long will refuse to marry her as she had lost the baby, Tram began to think about kidnapping a child . After a night of careful watch, she decided to kidnap the baby of the couple Hen- Tam.

The General Hospital in district 7 said that the baby was in good health. Dr. Tran Du Dong, head of the hospital, directly said sorry to the baby’s parents promising to ask the safeguards and medical staff to write a letter acknowledging their wrongdoings. Dr. Dong also said the hospital will cover their hospital fee.

People’s Committee in District 7 and the hospital gave policemen VND5 million (US$237) and VND10 million (US$474.6) for fast investigation. Le Trong Hieu, People’s Committee Chairman lauded that policemen have made concerted efforts to track down the kidnapper.
