The Ministry of Finance has just issued a decree to establish the road maintenance fee rates for each kind of vehicle.
|The road maintenance fee decree will affect almost 35 million motorbike owners and 1.5 million car owners|
As per the decree, the owner of a 10-seater car will pay a minimum fee of VND130,000 (US$6.2) per month; for less than 12 seats the fee will be VND180,000 ($8.65) per month, with the same rate applying to a 2-ton truck. A 27-ton truck will pay VND1.04 million ($49.9), but the highest rate of VND1.44 million ($69.2) per month will apply for an over 18-ton truck and a 40’’ container truck.
Electric bicycles and motorbikes of 50-100cc engine will pay VND50,000-100,000 per year, while those with 100cc engine will pay VND100,000-150,000 per year.
The fee will be VND50,000-VND100,000 per year for motorbikes with 100 cylinder volume and VND100,000-VND150,000 for motorbikes with more than 100 cylinder volume.
The decree will take effect from January 1, 2013.
As the decree will affect almost 35 million motorbike owners and 1.5 million car owners, the Ministry of Finance has sent its report to the Prime Minister for approval and for more suggestions from related agencies.
Some suggestions have been sent back to the ministry, such as not to collect fee for electric bicycles and exemption of fee for people on the poverty line.
