Rhino Horn Smugglers Cut off at Airport

A Vietnamese couple trying to smuggle in five rhinoceros horns were apprehended by customs officers at Ha Noi’s Noi Bai Airport on Tuesday.

The Ha Noi Forest Protection Department says three 7.7kg rhino horns were found in the luggage of Ngo Kim Trong and two 7.4kg horns in the bags of Bui Thi Xuan.

Immediately after confiscation, the horns were sent to the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, which determined that they had come from Africa’s white rhino.

Ngo Kim Trong (b. 1948) and Bui Thi Xuan (b. 1965) live in a village in Vinh Phuc province.

The case has been handed over to the police.
