Seven arrested for illegal timber logging in Ha Tinh Province

The Police Investigation Agency in Ha Tinh Province on Wednesday arrested seven people for illegal logging in the province, in one of the largest and worst illegal deforestation cases.

Of the seven, one is an illicit timber trader and six are former forest rangers, whose houses and offices were raided by the police.

They are being held for the largest and worst deforestation case that has been ongoing from 2010 until early 2012 in Son Hong Commune of Huong Son District at the borders of Vietnam and Laos.

In related news, on the same day the Police Department in Phuc Trach District of Quang Binh Province identified 11 of the suspects responsible for chopping down three ancient Sua trees in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

They are all local residents and the police are continuing to investigate further details of the case.
