Vietnam Airlines captain investigated for smuggling

Tan Binh district Police Department in HCMC last night said that they have been investigating illicit goods trade by a captain of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
On January 11, Bui. Q. Th, 35 years old from Hai Duong province, was caught red handed handing over 120 perfume bottles of well-known brand names such as Bleu De Channel Paris, Allure Home Sport, Channel Chance and three cell phones to a man in the domestic terminal of the airport. Th failed to present receipts for the consignment of goods worth VND120 million (US$5,187) so they all have been seized.
At the airport’s police post, Th. declared that he bought the perfume bottles at the tax free area in Paris Chales De Gaulle Airport, France with the price of over EUR3,000. He brought them to Hanoi in Flight VN119 which he is the captain of. Afterwards he flew from Hanoi to HCMC in Flight VN225 as a flight crew member.
At 11:15a.m.  on January 11, he called Nguyen. V. D, 59 years old from HCMC’s Go Vap district, to the domestic terminal to take the perfume bottles.
The police post at Tan Son Nhat Airport has transferred the case to Tan Binh district Police for further investigation.
