20 Mekong Delta enterprises penalized for environmental pollution

20 business enterprises in the seafood, sugar processing and industrial zone infrastructure development sector have been penalized for environmental pollution in the Mekong Delta.

The Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has penalized these twenty enterprises for causing serious levels of pollution in some Mekong Delta Provinces.

They were penalized for violating environment protection regulations that included releasing untreated wastewater into the environment, not having wastewater treatment plants and discharging wastewater in excess of permissible limits.

Viet Hai Seafood Company in Phung Hiep District of Hau Giang Province and Hau Giang Industrial Zone Infrastructure Development Company were penalized a total VND500 million (US$25,000).
