Speaking at the ceremony, Dao Tan Loc, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that Phu Yen province as an agriculture-based province, had made great efforts to ensure food security and had taken steps towards developing into an industrialised and modern region focused on improving the living standards of the local people.
As of now, 100 percent of the villages have access to the national grid and the number of poor households has reduced to just 9 percent.
Mr. Sang urged the province to make greater efforts by taking advantage of its vast potential and resources, its strategic location, its natural resources and its huge human resource base to become a highly industrialised province within the next 10 years.
He said that the province needed to strengthen cooperation with other provinces in the country to attract more foreign investments to develop its economy.
The Politburo member also asked the Phu Yen provincial Party Committee to improve people’s living conditions and narrow the gap between rural and urban areas, stressing that the province should focus more on forest protection and the development of the fisheries industry.
In related news, on the same day, the National Tourism Year 2011 kicked off in Tuy Hoa City in the south Central Coastal region of Phu Yen.
The event this year is being co-hosted by Phu Yen and six other south-central coastal provinces of Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
The event will provide a chance for visitors to discover the splendid beauty of the beaches and islands of the south-central coastal regions and for Vietnam to promote beach and island tourism to international companies.
It is also a good opportunity for the region to promote investments, attract more visitors and make full use of the tourism potential of the region, contributing to a boost in the socio-economic development of the area as well as developing the tourism sector for the future.
