AAF supports $50,000 to save elephants in Dak Lak Province

The Hong Kong-based charity that seeks to end cruelty to animals in Asia, Animals Asia Foundation (AFF), on May 23 signed an agreement with the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province to finance a project on conserving elephants in Vietnam worth US$50,000 for the period of 2016-2017.
This is the first time Dak Lak Province has signed an agreement with an international organization to cooperate in local wildlife conservation. Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam CITES Management Authority, and the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province had also built small projects to protect the elephants in Vietnam and the existing elephant herds in Dak Lak Province.
According to AAF, 60 percent of the fund will be used for medical equipment and health care for elephant herds in Dak Lak Province. The project has also set aside $12,000, or 24 percent of the fund, for training for vets and local staff.
