Almost 10 million Vietnamese government workers or so will see their minimum salaries increase by 20-25% from October 1 if a resolution on basic salaries takes effect.

The Government is still mulling over whether the minimum monthly salary should be raised from VND350,000 (about US$22) currently to VND420,000 (US$26) or VND450,000 (US$28).
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs worked out the two options, and the higher amount appears to be the favorite.
The Ministry of Finance estimates that the Government will spend a total of VND32 trillion for this pay rise in the last three months of this year and the entire next year.
The new basic salary will also be used to fix pension, social insurance, and allowances of employment termination for employees in all state-run companies, ministries, and government agencies.
A must for the Government when salaries rise is to prevent price hikes, said Nguyen Tien Thoa, deputy chief of the Price Research Institute of the Ministry of Finance.
