The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City will be forming 31 delegations to visit underprivileged households in the city until January 26.
Recent studies have revealed 130,000 poverty-level households in the city. The income of the average person in these households is VND 16 million per year.
The Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of District 9 coordinated with VinGroup on January 19 to give 600 gift packages, worth VND 500,000 each, to 600 residents of income below VND 12 million per year, said the Deputy Head of Department Le Thi Phuoc.
District 3 donated more than VND 7 billion to help more than 5,000 families under preferential treatment policy and poverty-level households.
The monks and Buddhists in Nam Thien Nhat Tru Pagoda along with Managing Committee of the Buddhist Shangha of Vietnam in Thu Duc District donated 500 gift packages, worth nearly VND 300 million to unprivileged households.
The HCMC Worker’s Support Fund granted 23 scholarships and loans to 15 workers from Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone. The Fund also donated 100 gift packages to workers in Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone.
Leaders of Ben Tre Province visited and gave New Year gifts to workers on transportation sites, namely Cho Lach and Co Chien Bridges, hoping to send encouragement to them.
Vietnam Television gave over three houses to families under preferential treatment policy in Thoi Xuan Commune, a poor commune in Co Do District in Can Tho City. Each house costs VND40 million and were donated by employees of VTV9 channel, VTV Can Tho, and DVS Trading and Services Company.
Prudential Vietnam Company recently coordinated with local authorities to donate 200 gift packages to poverty-stricken households in the Mekong Delta provinces.
The delegation of Navy High Command of Zone 1 and news agencies visited, greeted and presented Tet gifts to coastguards and residents on Tra Ban and Tran islands in Quang Ninh Province, and Bach Long Vi Island in Hai Phong City on January 18-19.
Provincial group of Quang Tri Province gifted 15 gift packages, worth VND1 million each, to underprivileged people in Hai An Commune in Hai Lang District. They also donated a drum set and a bookcase, worth VND15 million, to Hai An Junior High School.
The Vietnam Women’s Union visited Vietnamese Heroic Mother Phan Thi Khuyen and gave presents to low-income families under preferential treatment policy, underprivileged women, and soldiers in Quang Tri Province.
