At the scene, the garbage dump was still shouldering and the fire was flared up by strong wind.
Fire fighters said that the fire was unlikely to be stamped out in the next couple of days, requiring the company to supply the landfill site’s map and depth to have measures to absolutely isolate the fire.
The fire started in the evening on March 2 and quickly spread to engulf the entire waste treatment site. Ten fire trucks together with 70 fire fighters were mobilized to the scene. Some nearby firms sent fire trucks to assist fire-fighting efforts. Still they were unable to battle the fire at noon on the following day.
The landfill was set up in 2006 over the total area of 100 hectares to handle industrial and household waste for Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
