Nearly 50 passengers escaped death when a boat sank off the coast of Ly Son Island in the central province of Quang Ngai on November 9.
The Vinh Hai QNg 0025 – VT boat directed by Phan Van Trung, which set off from Sa Ky Port, was only seven nautical miles away from the island when heavy rains and rough seas made the water flow into the boat.
The island authorities sent five boats to the site for rescue after receiving the boat signalled for help.
Rescue boat could not approach the boat after three hours.
All passengers was evacuated ashore safe and sound with cargo being thrown into the sea.
According to initial investigation, the accident was caused by the problem of the boat’s water pump.
