Catholics Congratulated on Christmas

On the occasion of coming Christmas,  leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City organizations have extended their congratulation and wish to Catholic dignitaries and its followers.

The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front on Tuesday delivered a congratulation letter from the Vietnam Fatherland Front President Pham The Duyet to Christian dignitaries and co-religionists on Christmas 2006, which stated that the dignitaries have successfully contributed to the campaigns for building a cultural life in residential areas and for the poor.

The president also praised their contributions to support the HIV/AIDS-affected people. He also added that the Catholic dignitaries and its followers should continue their determination to build the country and glorify the tradition of a patriotic Viet Nam.

In his letter, he wished that all Catholic dignitaries and followers would have a happy and warm Christmas season.

Also on this occasion, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tai, Deputy Head of the city Fatherland Front Vo Thi Dung; and many religious representatives of Buddhism, Caodaism and the Protestant Church paid a courtesy visit and congratulated the city Archbishop and other Catholic dignitaries.

During the meeting, Mr. Tai highlighted that the Christmas season was the happiness for not only Catholic followers but also all people worldwide.

Deputy Head of the city Fatherland Front Vo Thi Dung said Christmas was a happy event for all religious followers. "The 2006 Christmas will be welcomed safely, happily and economically," she reminded of the city Party’s Committee and People’ Committee’s call for all people to practice thrift.

"The 2006 Christmas marks happy and sad events when Viet Nam has had to face successive typhoons but successfully hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting and joined the World Trade Organization (WTO)," she concluded.
