Central fishermen enjoy bumper Talang queen fish catch

Several fishermen in the central province of Quang Tri enjoyed the bumper Talang queen fish catch in the first days of the lunar new year.

Fisherman Le Van Vien’s ship carrying more than 20 tons of the fish yesterday landed at Cua Viet port in Gio Linh District. One fresh fish weighing averagely 3 kilogram was sold at VND50,000- VND60,000 ($2.1 - $2.5) per kilogram.
Fisherman Vien said he caught 3.5 tons of anchovy on the third day of the lunar new year earning VND50 million ($2,154). He and 11 other fishermen continued to head for the open sea the next day and three days after, they discovered a large school of fish.
They took 20 minutes to catch the school of fish which was estimated more than 100 tons, he said.
Presently, over 40 tons were being carried ashore fetching VND50,000 - VND60,000 per kilogram. The remaining would be carried ashore, he said.
Head of the Exploitation, Protection, and Developments of Living Aquatic Resource Department Nguyen Hoai Nam said local fishermen enjoyed bumper fish catch especially Talang queen fish since the second day of the lunar new year.
Not only Vien but also two other fishermen caught a large school of fish. Fisherman Le Van Tuan and Ho Van Tha caught more than 20 and 10 tons of Talang queen fish respectively.
Present at the port to welcome fishing boats, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh and his deputy Ha Sy Dong congratulated the fishermen with flowers.
Delighted at the lucky catch in the first days of the lunar new year, Mr. Dong said bumper catch has showed a good sign that aquatic resources are abundant and productive, hoping that it would be incentive for farmers to go out to sea and spend more on net, machines for production in the next time.
