Central region suffers water shortage, chemical contamination: conference

Rural areas in the central region are facing a serious water shortage, with just 15 percent of households getting access to clean water, experts said a seminar.

Speaking at the seminar held in Hue last Saturday titled “Agriculture – Rural Environment and Diversification of Biology in Central Region of Vietnam”, they warned that the region’s environment is seriously polluted by the use of fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemical substances.

Talking about the speed of development, they said many rural areas are being urbanized and bring about environment corollary.

The seminar was organized by the Institute of Resources Environment and Biotechnology of Hue University, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
