Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday asked relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute those who are responsible for the second dam breach at Ia Krel 2 Hydropower Plant in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.
He made the requirement at a meeting with the Ministry of Construction on the dam breach in Ia Dom Commune, Duc Co District on August 1, a year after the first breach occurred.
No individuals or agencies have come forward for the incident, he said. As a result, investigation and prosecution are needed to make clear responsibilities of each agency in Gia Lai Province, who have verified the work’s design and permit construction.
Bao Long-Gia Lai Company, investor of the Ia Krel 2 Hydropower Plant, must assume responsibility for affected residents. The Ministry of Construction should consider its responsibilities in the dam breach.
The dam breach inundated the lowlands under floodwaters, resulting in billions of Vietnamese dong in losses, according to statistics from local authorities.
