While meeting with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung in Ha Noi yesterday ahead of their departure for the 2015-18 tenure, diplomats committed to obtaining international support for national construction and development.
The top legislator congratulated the diplomatic sector on its significant achievements in State, parliamentary and people-to-people diplomacy.
He noted that bilateral, multilateral and strategic relations with other countries were developing well, helping raise Viet Nam's position in the international arena.
He described the successful organisation of the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly with the participation of hundreds of parliamentarians from around the world as a remarkable achievement in 2015.
In this spirit, the NA leader asked diplomats to make use of mutually-beneficial co-operation opportunities with other countries to make contributions to the country's development.
He asked the diplomats to promote comprehensive co-operation with foreign partners in politics, national defence, security, economics, culture, science and education.
Diplomatic offices abroad should promote communication to help international friends understand Vietnamese culture, history and people, while taking advantage of international support to safeguard national sovereignty and independence, he noted.
He said the diplomats should take care of overseas Vietnamese nationals and disseminate the 2013 Constitution and new laws which create a favourable legal framework for foreign businesses to invest in Viet Nam while embracing parliamentary diplomatic ties with foreign partners.
