Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam held a press conference at Hanoi on November 11 in order to issue detail planning for the fifth East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress.
The first congress was held in 2003 it is held every 3 years. This year, Vietnam hosted the fifth East Asian Seas Congress in the central coastal city of Da Nang as a member country.
The EAS congress was organized by the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) and its member countries.
The triennial event is considered as the leading international conference on sustainable management development of the seas of East Asia, oceans and coastal regions; and becomes a forum for information exchange and strengthening regional partnerships.
This year’s event themed ‘Global targets, local benefits - Setting the Sustainable Development Agenda for the Seas of East Asia beyond 2015’ is scheduled to take place on November 16- 21 with the presence of 700 domestic and foreign guests, including managers, scientists, representatives of ministries, departments, international organizations, sponsors and businessmen.
Through the strategy for the sustainable development agenda for the seas of East Asia and PEMSEA targets beyond 2015, the congress has provided a region-wide platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, capacity building, strategic action and cooperation for the sustainable management and development of the East Asian seas.
Within the framework of the 2015 EAS congress, many activities will take place such as conferences, seminars, environment and island exhibition and others.
