Nearly 3.1 million kWh of electrical power have been integrated into the national power network after seven months using gas from Go Cat garbage dump’s.
The garbage is being buried so there is only enough gas to operate one 750 kWh generator. The two remaining generators of 750kWh and 920kWh are expected to be put into use at the end of 2006.
The project on the conversion of gas from Go Cat garbage dump into electrical energy costs VND260 billion (about US$16 million), 60% of which is financed by the Holland Government and the rest is from the capital of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
The Committee is considering to prolong the time of using this garbage dump until 2008. After that, Phuoc Hiep 822-ha garbage dump in Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City will be used to generate energy.
