In a meeting held by the National Steering Board for Bird Flu Prevention in Ha Noi on February 07, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat said that at present, there are 102 poultry slaughtering enterprises in the whole country. Another 65 poultry slaughtering enterprises will be set up in the first quarter of 2006 to provide people with poultry for safe consumption.
After the bird flu epidemic is temporarily constrained, alive poultry and poultry products, which do not have a clear certificate of origin and are not inspected by the veterinary agency, have been sold at some markets in the Ho Chi Minh city.
Therefore, the National Steering Board for Bird Flu Prevention has asked local authorities to watch carefully, discover timely transactions on non-inspected poultry and impose strict penalties on traders. Border posts must reinforce to control illegally imported livestock, poultry and poultry products.
