Farmers whose animals died of avian influenza will be paid compensation, according to a decree issued Friday.

The government will pay farmers whose animals died 70-80 percent of the market price of meat. For instance, farmers will be given VND23,000/kg for poultry; VND25,000/kg for pork; and VND30,000/kg for ox, buffalo, or sheep.
Veterinarians will also receive assistance from the government. They will be paid VND50,000 (US$3.10) each for a working day lost and VND100,000 (US$6.20) for a holiday. The government will give breeding farms where water fowl is raised full assistance.
The decree also states the commercial banks must rollover loans already extended to cattle and poultry breeders and make additional loans available to them.
