Fatal truck accident kills 10, injures 5 in Nghe An Province

Ten men died and five are in critical condition after a truck carrying logs of wood overturned and crushed the men, early Wednesday in Binh Chuan Commune of Con Cuong District in the central province of Nghe An.

Most of the 15 men belonged to the Thai ethnic minority group in the mountainous commune of Chau Ly in Quy Hop District.

Nguyen The Manh, chairman of the People’s Committee in Binh Chuan Commune said that it was about 3.45 in the morning when the truck overturned and the logs of wood rolled on the ill-fated men.

The commune officials and residents pulled the men from beneath the logs. Seven were declared dead on site while eight were found with crushed arms and legs and rushed to hospital. Two more died on way to hospital.

Bodies of the dead were transported to their homes in Na Lan Village of Chau Ly Commune by 12am of the same day. Lo Van Hung was pained to see his two dead sons, aged 21 and 23, both leaving behind three young children.

Another man died in hospital later taking the tally to 10 people dead.

Nghe An Province authorities visited and offered financial aid to the victims’ families.
