Fire destroys historic church in northern province

Functional departments of Nam Dinh, a northern coastal province in the southern Red River Delta, are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed over 100-year-old church on Saturday night, July 5.
According to local residents, the fire occured at around 11.30pm at Trung Lao Church in Truc Ninh District’s Trung Dong Ward.
Five fire engines and more than 100 firefighters of the province were dispatched to the scene to contain the fire. The fire was completely extinguished around 6am Sunday morning. No deaths or injuries have been reported, but the fire destroyed large part of the church's ancient architecture.
Trung Lao church belonged to Bui Chu Conference of Catholic Bishops is 50 meters long, 16 meters wide and 12 meters high. This is a unique architectural work which has a beautiful wooden interior.
