This will be the first highway in Viet Nam constructed under a build-transfer contract.
The highway will pass through the districts of Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc. It will cross the Binh Loi River and links Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Binh Loi Bridge to the Outer Ring Road at Xuan Hiep intersection.
It will be 14km long and 30m to 65m wide. Some parts of the highway will have 12 or six lanes for cars and heavier vehicles. At Binh Loi Bridge, it will have eight lanes.
Construction is expected to be complete by 2012. The highway is designed to lessen traffic congestion downtown.
After a meeting between Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, and Kim Kab Ryul, chief executive of GS, the responsible agencies said that site clearance work is being carried out. The agencies hope to finish the work by December this year.
