Government Bans Wastefulness during Tet

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has banned government officials and civil servants from presenting flowers, gifts, money to their superiors at either their home or office.

Mr. Khai prohibited government agencies from organizing wasteful parties, travel tours or festivities during Tet. Using State budget to illegally reward or present bonuses to organizations or individuals is also banned.

Notably, the Prime Minister asked for assistance from media in detecting and condemning the abuse of public vehicles for private use.

Government offices’ spending on Tet must be transparent and made public to all employees, and will be checked closely by the Ministry of Finance.

Besides, Mr. Khai asked ministries and local authorities to help the needy to have a chance to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Security are requested to streamline immigration procedures to facilitate overseas Vietnamese to return to Viet Nam for Tet.
