With Vietnamese fishing boats being constantly attacked in the East Sea by unknown vessels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed measures to protect fishermen with the Da Nang city People’s Committee on August 17.

Deputy minister Nguyen Thanh Son urged the committee to strengthen collaboration with the Coast Guard to monitor the fishing boats.

The ministry has already ordered local authorities to provide fishermen basic knowledge of maritime law to prevent them from transgressing into other countries’ territory or using mines and explosives for fishing.

It also instructed the city to set up a hotline with the ministry for making timely interventions when fishing boats are captured at sea.
