Government Never Shields Corruption

A traffice jam in HCMC

President Nguyen Minh Triet identified with the people’s difficulties as a result of the high rate of inflation and increased prices during a meeting with voters in the city’s District 1 and 3 on 13 June 2008.

Many voters worried that increased prices will create a barrier to the rate of economic growth.  They said that the project to improve Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal has been in progress for prolonged period. Voters have said that the Government should take strict measures to guide the related organizations/companies. In addition, voters also said that the compensation price of agricultural land is very low.

At the meeting, voters said they were delighted at the outcome of the National Assembly’s (NA) third session. They said that the NA and the Government had pledged to tackle the issues with which they were particularly concerned. Voters also reported on unresolved issues and the actual circumstances in their localities.

It was suggested that the NA give priority to building the Law of Planning and asked that the city authorities publicize the results of the inspection of the new Thu Thiem urban area project and MPU18.

The President also asked that voters themselves take part in solving socio-economic issues, practice better financial strategies, and ensure stability to ensure the development of the country in numerous aspects.

“The main reason for increased prices is due to the increasing price of world oil. People should join hands with the Government to solve inflation. In response, State President Nguyen Minh Triet stated that the Government would never shield corruption”.

On the same day, over 200 voters of District 7 met delegates of HCMC People’s Council, Phan Thanh Quan and Nhu Thi Huong. Voters reported to them their concerns about many issues, for example the dusty pollution on Huynh Tan Phat Street and traffic congestion.
