Government ups spending on transport projects by 70%

The Government has disbursed VND9.97 trillion (US$560.4 million) for transport projects so far this year, a year-on-year increase of almost 70 percent, the Ministry of Transport said on August 6.

These projects have so far cost VND10.74 trillion.

The ministry said the disbursement was rapid because the Government agencies overseeing the projects were flexible and made advance payments to help contractors facing financial difficulties.

However, build-operate-transfer and other private projects have generally been much slower in disbursing funds.

They include major ones like the Lang – Hoa Lac highway, Dong Nai Bridge, National Highway No.51, and Gie-Ninh Binh Bridge.
