ASEAN member-nations and international organizations are discussing key issues from last year’s agenda at the 16th ASEAN Task Force on AIDS (ATFOA) conference which opened in Ha Noi yesterday.
The three-day conference is part of ASEAN’s efforts to promote cooperation in fighting AIDS between itself and international organizations.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, deputy director of the Ministry of Health, told delegates Viet Nam has always actively participated in ATFOA’s activities in preventing and fighting AIDS.
Viet Nam has promulgated a law on the prevention and control of the disease, she added.
According to Ministry of Health figures, there are more than 132,000 people in the country with HIV, mostly young people and drug addicts. Nearly 40,000 people have died of AIDS.
